Term 1
Landscape & Architecture

Pupils will create a textiles pencil case, incorporating an electronic circuit using smart materials. They will be introduced to textiles techniques as well as E-textiles and other smart materials.

By the end of Term one pupils will be able to:
Produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences.
Show consistent mastery of a wider range of wet and dry materials.
Evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design.
know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.

Learn how to refine their body of skills in both wet and dry media.
Undertake practical activities that build on previous understanding.
Sample work in the style of various artists and art movements.

The skills taught in this term aim to build upon prior knowledge gained in Y8.
The activities undertaken this year will aim to refine and consolidate the students skills and strengthen their artistic tool kit.
These skills will be revisited throughout the rest of Key Stage Three and form the foundations of success moving into Key Stage Four.

Term 2
Textiles & Architecture

Pupils will consolidate the skills they have learnt throughout the year and apply them to a final piece around the theme of a cityscape.

By the end of term three pupils will be able to:
Successfully apply a range of techniques to create a highly personalised and resolved outcome.
Gain an understanding of art from other cultures.

Learn how to select the most appropriate media from a range of wet and dry media.
Undertake practical activities that help to build understanding of composition and strengthen understanding of the formal elements.
Sample work in the style of various artists and art movements.

Students will be able to select from a range of skills taught throughout term one and term two.
Students will have the opportunity to revisit and master these skills throughout this term.

Undertake a series of practical activities which will allow students to select and refine their skills as their final piece develops.

Identify and expand upon key textile techniques and successfully apply these in their work.
Develop an understanding of textile manipulation techniques.

Learn how to use different types of decorative embroidery.
Undertake practical activities that help to develop fabric manipulation and embroidery skills.
Sample work in the style of various artists and cultures.

These concepts will build upon the basic skills introduced in Term 2 of Y8.
These key concepts will be revisited throughout the rest of Key Stage Three and form the foundations of success moving into Key Stage Four.
